Today’s article will appeal to all of us blokes. The appeal of this article however will be entirely lost on the ladies – who do not understand these things.
The above YouTube video shows the maiden flight of a model aircraft: a Mikoyan Mig-25. The aircraft is 13 feet 9 inches long and weighs 6 stone, 9 pounds and 11 ounces. It has been made by a young New Zealand man called Clinton (surname unknown) who was 18 at the time of the video (2011) and his father, who owns a model shop. They have clearly made not only the airframe but two small turbo-jet engines!
I am sure all us blokes will be smiling in admiration and some of us may be a little envious.
This was the first day of the 2011 ANZAC jet rally in Tokoroa New Zealand – so there were other flying model aircraft.
As you will hear, Clinton was asked by the interviewer if he (Clinton) thought that this flying MIG-25 would be a “babe magnet” (attract girls). Well, if Clinton thinks this, it is time for an older more experienced man to give him some advice about women: this is the sort of thing that causes a girl to start texting her friends to see if they want to go shopping. Clinton, very well done lad – but remember not to mention your fantastic aircraft to any girl your eye takes a fancy to!
Just a thought: would it not be a jolly good wheeze to invite Clinton and his wonderful aircraft over to the UK for the opening ceremony of the Olympics! Just think, if a small CCTV camera and remote link was placed in the aircraft, depending on its range, Clinton could have it take off and fly over the ceremony. Since it would not be immediately apparent to the vast bulk of the citizenry (who are not trained aircraft observers – correct judgment of size and height is a considerable skill) that it is a model aircraft and not the real thing, complete pandemonium may break out!
LEGAL NOTICE: THE ABOVE IS NOT A SUGGESTION TO DO THIS. IT IS MERELY A PIECE OF IDLE DAY-DREAMING. THE EDITOR EMPHATICALLY STATES THAT SUCH A STUNT SHOULD NOT BE CARRIED OUT.
