The excellent and learned Dr. Richard North in his blog post today (http://eureferendum.com/blogview.aspx?blogno=86448) delivers an excellent analysis of Madam Mayhem’s strategy in seeking a mandate for herself on Thursday 8th June 2017.
Of course, Madam Mayhem will be asking the British People to vote for a pig in a poke. A deception. For a historical context, GOTO: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pig_in_a_poke
To paraphrase the Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, “General elections can only be analysed backwards, but must be campaigned forwards.”
This organ agrees with Dr. North’s analysis of Madam Mayhem’s election strategy. However where that strategy will lead us if she is successful is open to speculation. This is because we have yet to find out if Madam Mayhem will alter her stance on membership of the EEA post Brexit. In other words: will she perform yet another U turn and go for Flexcit, aka “the Norway Option” aka EFTA+EEA?
This is a possibility, but it would depend on how well the Tories do on the 8th June. IF Madam Mayhem was to get a thumping majority she might feel emboldened to change tack. However, she may well find that she is hoisted on the petard of her own large majority for it is entirely possible that the hordes of new Tory MPs will be just as deluded as the Unfortunate Nuttall vis-à-vis the obtaining of the Shangri La of the “deep and comprehensive free trade deal that will deliver the benefits of being in the single market to UK commerce without the UK being in it!”
That is as about as possible as making an omelette without breaking any eggs!
At this point, doubtless the Unfortunate Nuttall will pipe up; “But you can! You use egg powder instead!” Without realising that to make egg powder you need to break some eggs!
Dr North draws his readers attention to Mr Juncker’ s 2007 comment: “We all know what to do, we just don’ t know how to get re-elected after we’ve done it”…
This will of course be Madam Mayhem’s dilemma in June 2022 just as it was going to be in May 2020.
The FACT of the matter is this: Unless Madam Mayhem adopts Flexcit, aka “the Norway Option” aka EFTA+EEA, then she is doomed to the consequences outlined in our article of the 14th GOTO: http://www.british-gazette.co.uk/2017/04/14/brexit-is-it-a-game-of-chess/
At this point, British Gazette readers might ask their Editor: “Which party should we vote for?”
We have to reply: At this point, it is an impossible choice. This is because you do not know what Madam Mayhem will deliver if returned to government. To get some idea one will have to await the publication of the Tory’s election manifesto. IF (and we doubt this) it contains a written commitment to remain IN the EEA then voting Tory would be a sensible thing to do. IF however there is NO such commitment then it is the case of the lesser evil. That has to be Labour.
So to repeat: IF there is NO commitment in the Tory election manifesto to remain IN the EEA, VOTE LABOUR!
Because Dear Old Comrade Corbyn is more of a Brexiteer than Madam Mayhem!
The one rider we would add is that in a constituency like St. Ives and the Isles of Scilly where the obvious challenger to the Tory is a Lib-Dem, then voting Tory is a sensible option.
