• Turkeys voting for Christmas?

Iain Watson, one of the political correspondents for the Brussels Brainwashing Commissariat has “tweeted” a report that the the Shadow Cabinet will vote for the Buffoon’s one line bill to bring about an election in December this evening.

Of course, the media pundits will be confidently suggesting that the Buffoon is on course to win.

    Hmm….

There are a few things they are not be taking into account!

Firstly, the result is NOT a foregone conclusion.

Much has been said and written about the relative lack of ability and competence of the Buffoon – and also Comrade Corbyn – insofar as governing a country with a large sophisticated economy and infrastructure such as the UK. However. This is NOT where the talents of the aforementioned two gentleman lie. Notwithstanding the FACT that it would be difficult to find a more contrasting pair of politicians, both men have certain things in common with each other.

At this point of course the Abbess of Hackney & Mother Superior of the Black Sisters of Stoke Newington will declare that they are both “middle class white male heterosexuals”!

    So what!

The important thing these two men have in common is that they are both exceptionally able campaigners!

They have been doing it for most of their adult lives and one (Comrade Corbyn) in particular is enormously experienced.

Successful businessmen across the world know the validity of the phrase, “Experience counts!”

Sidekick Swinson on the other hand is inexperienced by comparison and unfortunately (for the European Union and the Lib-Dems) is prone to scoring own goals!

La Sidekick has however spotted one crucial factor – the importance of (for the Remainers) holding the poll on Monday 9th December 2019 and NOT the more traditional Thursday 12th December 2019.

IF Comrade Corbyn decided to support La Sidekick’s amendment, it would put the ball back into the Buffoon’s court as he would have to decide whether to pull the bill or accept the amendment.

IF the Buffoon accepted a Monday poll, this would mean that the opposition parties would gain from the student vote.

As for amendments from The Right Honourable, Ian, The Blackford of Ross, Skye and Lochaber to extend the franchise for those aged 16 and 17 and EU Citizens resident in the UK we would suggest this: #1: there is insufficient time to put this into effect. #2: there aren’t the votes for it.

Insofar as previous general elections in December are concerned these were:

Thursday 10th December 1868 ~ Gladstone elected PM
Monday 3rd December 1900 ~ Balfour elected PM (followed by Campbell-Bannerman)
Saturday 14th December 1918 ~ Lloyd George elected PM (followed by Bonar Law)
Thursday 6th December 1923 ~ Stanley Baldwin elected PM (followed by Ramsay MacDonald)

Should there be an election, the deciding factor will be the same as the referendum in June 2016 – the difference in the success each side had of getting it’s vote out. “Leave” won in 2016 because of the demographics – a greater %’age of old people voted than did young people. The “Remain” campaign were of course fully aware of this problem (for them) and tried valiantly to encourage the young to visit a polling station on Thursday 23rd June 2016. They failed.

Given that Comrade Corbyn will NOT enter into any electoral pacts, websites and use of social media platforms to identify which seats are Tory/Labour marginals and which are Tory/Lib-Dem marginals might play a very important part in the election.

The St. Ives and the Isles of Scilly constituency is a classic example.

However, there is one further factor to be taken into account: Will the Brexit Party led by The Famous Farage (For it is He!) and UKIP led by Richard (Barrack Room Batten’s Manservant) Braine put up any candidates?

IF they do then this will have a crucial effect on the “Leave” vote. Indeed, it could be said that both Famous and Barrack Room’s manservant could be Comrade Corbyn’s, The Blackford’s and La Sidekick’s greatest helpers!

Of course, readers will ask this question to the Editor: “If there is a general election, how will you vote?” The answer is this: “I will visit the polling station and will write “Vote withheld” across it and put it – intact – into the ballot box.”
